Sex, race and gender roles are still relevant today. In television you will see more of various groups of people in different shows then before but to say that we no longer have discrimination is wrong. I think much of television still depict traditional roles for men and women. There is still the tendency towards the traditional family roles with mother and father and such. You never see really large families with lots of kids or extended family living together. Women are still often view as objects of desire, or men being highly predator, and though they see to be making fun of it they are still reinforcing the double standard. I think while we have advance greatly as a society we are still only taking baby steps and that it will take at least 300 hundred years to eliminate most forms of discrimination if it can be done at all.

hell yeah...I would have to say that I agree with you...I like the sentence...Women are still often seen as objects of desire. That and they are reinforcing the double standard. Women still do get looked at the same, and men are still perceived a certain way..very true. Also some of it is by nature that we cant ignore so it will always be out there no matter what, and we would will be long gone before that ever happens.
ReplyDeletehey you got a really good point there about the double standard. On TV all I see is women trying to become objects of desire and rich powerful men who continue to get richer as they get older. It sends out a certain message to our viewers or society that women have to behave or look a certain way. We should just be trying to figure on television how we can be able to have these shows and not make them think that the ideal woman or body is suppose to be that way. But I do notice that now a days advertisements and commercials seem to feature more and more average sized and looking people in them. So that is sort of a start but seems like it can go a long way.
ReplyDeleteNo one can tell when the end for a thing is. The world keeps changing every minute and everyday. More and more traditional things have lost or are losing in today. Although we still can see people are living in the traditional ways for many points, more and more things are coming out to destroy the structures of tradition. Like in a family, we always think that a family should have a mother, a father, and their kids. But for today’s life, more and more families have become single parent families. The roles in a family have been changed in that way.
ReplyDeleteIt will never go away. People change only because they are forced to do so. Laws prevent certain types of discrimination, and without them, people would be discriminating. That Obama is president indicates that things change, yes, but, pit wage earner against wage earner for jobs and you'll see all standards of behavior get thrown out the window.
