Blog#3

The video is arguing against child labor. It compares the average life of a child in America and that of a child worker. It shows us that the things that we use every day have a much higher cost then we realize. The arguments are compelling and they appeal to our morality. It challenges our view of the world by showing us a side that we chose to ignore. This is a sign of a good advertisement because it uses all the sound and images to appeal to use on an emotional level and makes its message understandable by the end. There are many arguments in media like this but I don’t know how to post a video yet.

  1. Veeya, yes I agree with you about the video being effective because it appeals to our morality. And ignoring the facts is so easy to do. We have such comfort in this country, and it is frightening to think that life can be so harsh for so many people in the world. I heard that nearly 10 million people die each year for lack of clean drinking water, for example. So many problems. The best that I can do is to take one step at a time. Our volunteer midterm project is a good one, because it has reminde me that with the great opportunities that we have, so comes an opportunity and a responsibility to make the most of it, not just for ourselves, but for others less fortunate than we are. Thank you for your comments.

  2. Awesome..I totally agree with you...things do have a much higher cost then we realize...Americans tend to be spoiled and not many of us realize how bad others have it...and yes they do choose to ignore it..simply so they have to deal it..I thought it was a great advertisment as well...Great input! Keep up the great work..and when you figure out how to post something I would like to check it out!

  3. True that that, I myself am having doubts about buying a new pair of Nike shoes now. It's just like you said, it has to do with moral values and it sad that the kids are exploited like that. We don't realize the actual cost of the shoes or shoe until we get a visual and emotional understanding of what is happening around that world.
